In a recent interview, the Prosecutor of the Public Prosecutor of Paraíba (MPPB), Valberto Lira, declared that there are sports betting sites that operate illegally and that can be seen as criminal organizations.
As the prosecutor commented, users make a guess regarding the score of a football match, if they get it right, these users pocket a certain amount related to the starting bet amount. According to the Attorney of Paraíba, these bookmakers operate irregularly in national territory.
In an interview with Paraíba Já, the prosecutor also said that there is a monitoring carried out by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) in some matches for the Brazilian Championship of Series D last year. The suspicion is that these games have had their results manipulated in order to favor certain sports betting sites.
Lira also commented on the investigations of the State Championship of Paraíba this year, as well as the probability of manipulating recent matches. “Football today, it involves fabulous sums. There is a lot of money going on and where there is a lot of money, the attention of criminals is always attracted ”, said the prosecutor.
However, the prosecutor assured that the Public Ministry is investigating the facts and checking any irregularities in local football.
Suspected irregularity in the Paraíba Championship game
Recently, matches in the Paraíba Championship have been removed from betting platforms around the world due to suspected match-fixing. The first complaint had to do with a game played on July 22, involving CSP and Sport Lagoa.
The president of one of the teams, Aldeone Abrantes, said he received a cash offer to get involved in a manipulation scheme.
Thereafter, the Paraibana Football Federation (FPF) passed on the information to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Paraíba Football Sports Court (TJDF-PB), for the detailed investigation of the suspicions.
