Tennis player Enrique Lopez Perez suspended due to match-fixing

Professional tennis player Enrique Lopez Perez was banned for eight years from playing or participating in official tennis events after being found guilty of match-fixing.

The Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) investigation found that Perez was involved in three match-fixing cases in 2017. The sportsman also received a $ 25,000 fine (R $ 90,000 in current quote).

In the case investigated by anti-corruption official Richard McLaren on November 5, Perez was guilty of violating the rules of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) on three tournament opportunities in 2017, while two other allegations have not been substantiated.

Perez was provisionally suspended on December 19 of last year and is prohibited from participating in any authorized tennis event as of this Tuesday, December 1.

He was found guilty of violating section D.1.d of TACP 2017, which states that “no person should, directly or indirectly, invent or attempt to invent the result or any other aspect of any event”.

Tennis authorities have expanded their investigations into attempts to manipulate scores in the past two years. Last month, Bulgarian professional player Aleksandrina Naydenova was banned from professional tournaments for life after being found guilty of 12 of these irregularities.

In October this year, TUI also sentenced brothers Karen and Yuri Khachatryan for participating in match-fixing activities, with Karen being suspended for life and Yuri barred from playing for 10 years.
