Operators in the French online betting market generated revenues of € 1.74 billion in 2020, with a strong second half offsetting the stoppages at the beginning of the year.
The regulatory body, L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) celebrated the year of transformation, resulting in a 6.8% growth in sports betting revenue and € 940 million.
Despite the suspension of almost all live events in the first half of last year, bets have increased by 5.8% to € 5.35 billion, and active player accounts have grown by 30% compared to the results recorded in 2019.
“In many ways, 2020 was an extraordinary year and a turning point for the online gambling industry. It is a year of change and a record year in terms of activity levels ”, stated the ANJ.
The French regulator replaced ARJEL (National Gaming Authority) in the middle of the year, as a means of unifying the gambling and gambling industry regulation in a single body.
France’s online sector experienced historic moment
“Throughout 2020, the online market has shown very vigorous growth. The sector’s turnover grew by 22% in 2020 to reach € 1.7 billion, its highest level in one year since the sector’s opening ”, stated in the entity’s statement.
