The US states of New York and Maryland were inspired by Ohio’s strategy of offering free lottery tickets to people who receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
The games aim to increase immunization rates in the states, and come a week after Ohio Governor Mike DeWine released his “Vax-a-Million” program. Since the announcement in Ohio, vaccination rates among those over 16 have increased by more than 28%.
Vaccinated Americans Can Win Millionaire Prizes in New Lotteries
In New York, those over 18 who receive the Covid-19 vaccine from one of the state’s ten clinics will be entitled to a “Mega Multiplier” lottery ticket to shave. The chance of winning is one in nine, with prizes ranging from $ 20 to $ 5 million.
“We know that vaccines are the essential piece of the puzzle that we need to crush Covid once and for all. We are doing everything we can to make vaccination as quick and easy as possible, but as rates go down across the state, we will have to be creative, ”said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Cuomo added: “This new pilot program will offer a greater incentive for New Yorkers to be vaccinated, offering a free scratch card with a chance to win up to $ 5 million. The more New Yorkers we can vaccinate the better our situation will be and the faster we can get back to a new normal ”.
Meanwhile, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced that the Maryland Department of Health has partnered with the state lottery to launch the $ 2 million “VaxCash” Promotion, which will award that amount in cash prizes to a total of 41 vaccinated Maryland residents.
“The goal is just to catch those reluctant people, or people who just didn’t think about it. So, Maryland people, remember to get vaccinated for a chance to win, ”concluded Hogan.
