The Federal Government intends to create an agency to investigate manipulation of sports games in order to gain betting. The action would accompany the regulation for the sports betting market and recent investigations related to suspicions in the Brazilian Championship of Series A and B.

The Ministry of Finance is concluding an MP (Provisional Measure) to regulate the sector. In this legislation, betting companies will be required to have headquarters in the national territory and pay a R$ 30 million license and 15% tax on profit.

In addition, the government is concerned about how betting can stimulate attempts to manipulate results. An example of this is the investigation being carried out by the Public Ministry of Goiás, which has already found evidence of match-fixing in the two main divisions of Brazilian football. The suspicion is that athletes forced cards.

The government is studying a way via a bill to create a supervisory agency for the segment. The objective is to have a body linked to the Ministry of Finance, but acting in conjunction with the Ministry of Sports.

According to Uol Esporte, one possibility analyzed is to use resources from the taxation of betting profits to finance the operation of this agency.

Sports Justice supports the creation of an agency to combat match-fixing

Today, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has betting monitoring carried out by Sportradar, a company with experience in the sector and a partner of dozens of leagues and sports entities around the world.

There is a follow-up of unusual betting movements in the houses, linked to a subsequent evaluation of suspicious bids. Cases have already been sent for investigation at the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice).

However, the Sports Justice recognizes the difficulty in using the material provided by Sportradar to deepen investigations. Still according to Uol, the reports are basic. Bodies such as the MP-GO have police power to investigate cases in the criminal aspect.

A government agency could close this vulnerability in the system to oversee and curb match-fixing schemes alongside the regulation of sports betting.
