A booming economy has caught the attention of the global games industry. A detailed analysis of the Brazilian gambling sector, according to research carried out by ENV Media, reveals a diverse range of players from the most different socioeconomic levels.

The ‘rich’ are the biggest gamblers in Brazil, says survey

According to the survey, 12% of active players with real money in Brazil come from A-class families, the highest socioeconomic classification in the country.

This is a significantly represented number, considering that these wealthy households constitute only 2.9% of the Brazilian population.

This indicates that those from wealthier backgrounds are more likely to play for real money, perhaps due to their disposable income and easier access to online and brick-and-mortar gambling platforms.

Likewise, those from the B1-B2 households, another upper middle class group, comprise 40% of active real money players.

Given that B1-B2 households represent only 21.8% of the Brazilian population, this category is also over-represented in the gaming sector.

This suggests that those within the middle and upper middle class also participate in gambling at a relatively high rate, possibly due to their ability to engage in such leisure activities without significantly affecting their financial stability.

Interestingly, the largest socioeconomic segment, C1-C2 households, represent 48% of active players. This is almost directly proportional to their representativeness in the population, since they constitute 47.4% of the Brazilian population.

Thus, despite its relatively lower economic status, this segment bets on a rate consistent with its proportion in the general population.

But, reassuringly, this does not extend to those of the lowest definition of family. None of this interviews admitted participating in real money gambling.

This data may reflect the democratization of access to platforms, especially with the emergence of online games and mobile betting applications.

ENV Media Study Indicates Financial Flexibility Is Key For Gamblers

Even families with more modest incomes can now participate in gambling activities without incurring the substantial costs associated with traditional land-based casinos.

According to the ENV Media study, this is mainly due to the wide accessibility and relatively low cost of owning and using mobile phones in Brazil, as well as the ease of access to participate in real money games at online casinos and sports betting sites.

ENV Media’s research offers valuable information on the socio-economic profile of Brazilian players.

Representation of middle and upper socioeconomic groups among active gamers suggests that gambling is a popular leisure activity among these demographics, likely attributable to their economic flexibility.

Meanwhile, the representation of C1-C2 households in line with the percentage of the population underscores the increasing accessibility of gambling for individuals across the socioeconomic spectrum.

Opportunities galore in a booming market

The data shines the potential for growth and diversity of the Brazilian gambling market, making it an attractive scenario for investors and operators in the gambling industry.

However, it also highlights the importance of responsible gambling measures to ensure that gambling remains a source of entertainment, not financial hardship, particularly for those in the lower economic brackets.

Additional research into the motivations, preferences, and habits of these diverse gamer segments could further refine the gaming industry’s strategies in this vibrant market.
