In France, the National Gaming Authority (ANJ) is taking a significant step to improve the regulation of sports betting. The entity is preparing the “sports list” that will show the competitions authorized by the French government.

The intention is to make the document more accessible and efficient for sports betting operators and bettors.

ANJ list excludes 179 competitions

The review of the list, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport, federations, professional leagues and sports betting operators, focuses on improving readability and ensuring consistency.

ANJ highlights the need for updating, considering that the list has lost clarity since its creation in 2010.

In this way, the ANJ excluded 179 competitions, removing events without notoriety or susceptible to manipulation.

The objective is to strengthen the integrity of betting, avoiding the risk of undue interference in less visible competitions, such as the Armenian and Tunisian football championships.

So, among the changes, 772 competitions were kept eligible for betting, covering football, basketball, handball, golf, tennis.

ANJ simplifies the types of bets that can be placed

In addition, the list has undergone changes regarding the types of results and phases of games acceptable for betting. In other words, ANJ reorganized the types of results to simplify understanding and articulation.

This makes it easier for operators to implement and comply with the rules.

Therefore, these changes will come into effect from March 1st, and the ANJ will carry out a comprehensive assessment at the end of the year.

This initiative represents a significant step towards strengthening transparency, security and effectiveness in the sports betting scene in France.

“ANJ reinforces its commitment to maintaining a fair and reliable gaming environment for operators and bettors, adapting to the dynamics of the international sporting scenario”, says the entity’s note.
