Leveraging data from its Game Aggregator, a leading hub for iGaming projects, SOFTSWISS shares insights collected through the analysis of more than 300 customers and 16,500 games.
An examination of the online casino landscape in 2023 and early 2024 trends reveals that slots still hold a market dominance of over 80%. However, there are notable changes in the popularity of specific games.
Slot Games
In 2023, slots consistently ranked as the most popular gaming category, both in terms of Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) and Total Bet Count, capturing 85.56% of the market.
Although there was a slight drop to 83% in early 2024, slot popularity is expected to remain above 80%.
Throughout 2023, Pragmatic Play’s Gates of Olympus and Sweet Bonanza asserted their dominance, consistently occupying the top positions in the top 10 games.
However, the situation changed in early 2024 when Push Gaming’s Retro Tapes rose to the top, relegating the previous leaders to second and third place.
SOFTSWISS Live Dealer Games
Although slots dominate, the leaderboard also features other types of games, reflecting the diverse preferences of players.
In addition to individual titles, live dealer games are emerging as a highly popular category, right after slots.
Unlike slots, the live dealer games category attracts a different target audience. Players in this segment seek the atmosphere of a real casino and tend to place higher bets.
For example, the average bet on card games in 2023 was 49.95 euros, while on slots, it was just 0.75 euros.
Within this category, roulette and card games attract attention, reflecting the enduring appeal and widespread popularity of classic casino offerings among players.
In the first quarter of 2023, live casino game Crazy Time ranked third, falling to fourth by the end of the year. However, in early 2024, Prive Lounge Blackjack 5 surpassed it, securing a higher rating.
Playtech’s live roulette game, Brazilian Roulette, stood out in 2023, ranking highly at the beginning and end of the year.
While its global standing may change in early 2024, the game remains the top choice for players in Latin America, highlighting its continued popularity in that specific market.
Crash Games
The crash games category, emerging as the next most popular genre after live casino games in terms of gross revenue. That speaks to its appeal, with Spribe’s Aviator leading the charge.
This game notably rose to the top three rankings in the last quarter of 2023, despite starting the year in sixth position.
However, in early 2024, the Aviator saw a slight decline in popularity, returning to sixth position. Thus, illustrating the dynamic nature of player preferences within the crash games category.
Tatyana Kaminskaya, Head of SOFTSWISS Game Aggregator, comments: “Analyzing just the first month of the year doesn’t give the full picture, but we do this to predict emerging trends.
As slots continue to reign supreme in the gaming world, the diversity we see among the top-ranked games highlights the varied interests of our players.
This emphasizes the critical need to maintain a diverse portfolio that caters to different preferences, ensuring a rich gaming experience.
Adopting this strategy helps attract a wider audience and retain players by offering them multiple options, reducing the likelihood of them seeking alternatives.”
