UEFA Euro 2024 has the highest betting margins of this year’s major football events, surpassing Champions League 2024 by nine percentage points. SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, an award-winning sports betting software, shares insights from the tournament’s group stage.
According to SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, Euro 2024 has a betting margin of 17.3%. The most popular betting markets are match winner and total goals scored, with the latter having a margin of 15.5%.
Alexander Kamenetskiy, head of SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, explained: “This suggests that bettors are primarily interested in simple bets based on results and performance metrics.
These markets are likely attractive to bettors because they are simple and easy to understand. However, despite its simple nature, the high margins mean that predicting results can be challenging.”
The top 5
The five games with the biggest margins:
- Netherlands x France
- Belgium x Slovakia
- Austria x France
- Denmark x England
- Netherlands x Austria
These matches should be analyzed further to understand the factors that contribute to their high profitability, as well as unexpected results, high margins on certain types of bets or significant deviations from public expectations. Interestingly, three of these matches were also among the five most bet:
- Austria x France
- Netherlands x France
- Germany x Hungary
- Spain x Italy
- Belgium x Slovakia
This suggests that these matchups had a great deal of public interest, likely due to the popularity of the teams, star players or historical rivalries.
Betting Trends
The majority of bets (77%) are placed via mobile devices, indicating a strong preference for mobile betting among users and confirming the trend towards smartphones and tablets.
Combined bets represent 40% of all bets, but have a margin four times larger than single bets.
Although the average single bet is double the value of a parlay bet, the higher margin on parlay bets makes them crucial to profitability. Encouraging combined betting through promotions or better odds can be beneficial.
Alexander Kamenetskiy added: “The difference between tournaments of this level and others is the high number of new players, who only bet on Euro 2024 and then stop until the World Cup.
This is why operators carefully craft their intro bonus programs to show new players all the features available. Because matched betting has higher margins, encouraging it through special offers or loyalty rewards can be very profitable.”
The SOFTSWISS Sportsbook team recently launched its mobile app on Google Play and the Serbian App Store. Additionally, the company has introduced a free resource for businesses planning to start a sports betting venture – the Sportsbook Budget Calculator.
