The Ministry of Treasury and Health are studying the creation of an educational booklet on sports betting. This initiative relies on the exchange of information between the two parties to develop common policies on the topic.
According to the Secretary of Prizes and Bets, Régis Dudena, an interministerial working group will be created on the topic. “This interaction will allow us to receive technical information and use it in our relationship with bookmakers“, said Dudena.
Government will provide topics to cover about sports betting
Another idea is for bookmakers to create their own promotional material focused on health-related topics for consumers. The government will be responsible for sending bookmakers a document with topics of interest. Thus, with the material defined, companies will be able to develop their own actions in relation to sports betting.
“The agents themselves can make it available. What we intend is to structure a basic questionnaire that can be delivered by all market agents.” – said Dudena. The secretary also mentioned the possibility of integrating the SUS (Unified Health System) in actions to treat problems related to addiction.
In this way, a report is expected to be prepared based on data on users’ consumption of sports betting, such as:
- Screen time
- Internet gaming frequency
However, the tendency is for this to occur in 2025, when the law is already in force. Experts from both ministries will form the working group. According to Régis Dudena, in the Ministry of Finance, the focus will be on the Prizes and Bets Secretariat.
Therefore, with this new approach, the government seeks to ensure better control and awareness of the risks associated with addiction to sports betting. Collaboration between entities promises to have a significant impact on public health policies.
