Minister of Sports discusses integrity and betting with SIGA CEO

In Brasília, the Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, met with Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, co-founder and Global CEO of SIGA (Sport Integrity Global Alliance). Previously, Giovanni Rocco Neto, national secretary of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sport, participated in the signing of a Technical Cooperation Agreement with the entity.

Therefore, this agreement, signed with companies specializing in betting monitoring and integrity, including SIGA, reinforces the government’s commitment to combating irregularities in the sector.

Minister of Sports suggests surveillance in betting

Fufuca emphasized the need for vigilance in sports betting. “We have to be fair. If there is one thing that cannot exist, it is any type of illegality in sports betting. In this regard, we will be totally vigilant to ensure that there is none. And, if there is, that those responsible are punished”, stated the minister .

Emanuel Medeiros highlighted the importance of integrity in betting for sporting and economic development. “We are 100% committed to collaborating with the Brazilian government in this common objective.”

“Our extensive knowledge and expertise, as well as our universal standards and rating system are available to sports organizations, betting operators and regulators, as well as the government and other economic agents, such as sponsors, to that sport in Brazil is governed, operated and practiced in accordance with the highest standards of integrity”, he declared.

Betting regulation

Betting regulation became urgent after the 2018 law, whose implementation deadline was not met. Rocco Neto explained: “the chaotic scenario, worsened by the pandemic and changes in the population’s habits, requires firm action from the State to guarantee a safe environment for bettors.”

Finally, the National Secretariat for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports plans to sign a technical cooperation agreement. This agreement would be similar to the one signed by the Ministry of Treasury.

The initiative seeks to strengthen monitoring in the sports betting sector and promote integrity in this field. Consequently, the objective is to create a safer and more transparent environment for everyone involved in the betting market.
