In a letter to the Senate Sports Betting CPI, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) expressed concern about the possible manipulation of results in four matches.

The document, sent on November 6, marked an important step in the investigation of football fraud.

Implications of match-fixing in Brazilian football

In the document, the CBF asked senators to investigate a controversial move in the match between Athletico-PR and Cruzeiro, held on October 27th. Thus, the entity explained that, the day after the game, it contacted Sportradar, FIFA‘s partner in detecting manipulations, asking for attention to four matches.

The CBF reported that, on October 28, on the first business day after the confrontation, it sent a letter to Sportradar. “Requesting the company to pay special attention to four matches”, highlighted the confederation. However, the CBF did not specify what these games were, except for the aforementioned match between Athletico-PR and Cruzeiro.

Sportradar, in turn, confirmed that it was monitoring the matches and would prepare a report for FIFA. In response, the international federation informed the CBF that none of the four matches analyzed were considered suspicious. However, FIFA has committed to carrying out a new analysis.

This episode raises worrying questions about the integrity of competitions and betting practices in Brazil. The manipulation of results has generated intense debates among fans and sports authorities. To maintain fan interest and tournament credibility, transparency and trust are essential.

Given this situation, it is important that entities involved in betting control and sports regulations intensify their investigations. Maintaining a fair and fraud-free sporting environment is fundamental to the future of national football.

Now, expectations now fall on how the CPI das Apostas will act and what measures will be implemented to ensure competitions are carried out honestly.
