The Federal Police (PF) sent the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) a list of priorities for 2025 in the National Congress. According to the document, the corporation disapproves of the proposal that provides for the release of casinos and bingos in Brazil.

Concerns about the legalization of bingo and casinos

Among the projects listed as “not of interest” is the proposal that legalizes bingos and casinos in the country. Bill (PL) 2234/2022 almost went to plenary in the Senate with a request for urgency, but was removed from the agenda at the request of rapporteur Irajá.

The decision on the project will go through the coordination of the House’s new board of directors. The favorite to assume the presidency of the Senate is Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP).

The concern is about the possibility of crimes such as money laundering in this sector. Furthermore, the PF believes that gaming regulation can facilitate the exploitation of illicit activities.

Projects of interest for approval

Among the proposals that the PF lists as positive is the project that conditions the sale of gold in Brazil to the existence of mining and environmental guarantees. The Senate approved bill 836/2021 last year. It is attached to a proposal in the Chamber and awaits the creation of a temporary committee to discuss

The fight against illegal mining in the North region is one of the PF’s main areas of action in the Amazon. The assessment is that the lack of gold backing in trade is one of the “facilitators” for the crime of mining without authorization.

Another positive issue, according to the current management’s assessment, is that it typifies attacks on bank branches with sieges on small and medium-sized cities, a technique known as “new cangaço”, as an act of terrorism. This project (PL 610/2022) is in the Senate Public Security Committee and awaits the report from Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).
