Caixa Econômica Federal released Lottery collection figures for 2024. The total accumulated for the year was R$25.9 billion, growth of 10.6% compared to 2023.

Loterias Caixa play a fundamental role in promoting social development in Brazil. The operation of Loterias Caixa generates significant resources and directs these values to essential programs, such as social security, sport, culture, public security, education and health.

At the same time, Caixa Econômica Federal, as the main operating agent of the Federal Government‘s social programs, acts decisively in eradicating poverty and promoting income equity, benefiting millions of Brazilians.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, Caixa Lotteries revenue reached R$7.8 billion, a growth of 7.3% compared to the same period in 2023. Of this total, R$2.7 billion was allocated to the net prize pool given to players.

In the year to date, revenue totaled R$25.9 billion, representing an increase of 10.6% compared to 2023. Additionally, Caixa directed R$10.0 billion, equivalent to 38.8% of the amount collected, to the Federal Government’s social programs.

A highlight of the period was the launch of the Exclusive Instant Lottery (Lotex), authorized by the Ministry of Finance through MF Ordinance No. 1,646/2023. Operation of this modality was authorized for 24 months, with the possibility of extension until the concession to a private operator begins.

Social benefit payments

In the sphere of social benefit payments, Caixa acted robustly. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the bank paid R$93.4 billion, distributed in 116.2 million installments, covering income transfers, social programs, worker benefits and INSS payments.

In 2024, the total amount reached R$404.1 billion, with 452.9 million installments paid in all Brazilian municipalities.

Betting market

Caixa’s president, Carlos Vieira, announced that the bank will enter the sports betting market with the same governance applied to lotteries. “We are going to enter this market in a calm, conscious way, with the same governance that we have operated in lotteries since the 1960s.”

Furthermore, CAIXA launched Espaço TEIA, an innovation hub for GovTech startups, reinforcing its commitment to digital transformation.

In August 2024, before sector regulations came into force, Carlos Vieira had already confirmed that Caixa Econômica will be one of the main players in the market.

According to the bank’s president, sports betting does not compete with lotteries and that revenue from these new initiatives should represent half of lottery revenue.
