YouTube has announced a ban on links to bookmakers and betting sites not approved by Google. According to the company, its advertising platform maintains a list of authorized services based on the content creator’s location.
Starting March 19, channels that mention banned companies may face penalties outlined in YouTube‘s usage policy.
Restrictions for content creators on YouTube
According to YouTube, creators will not be able to post URLs of banned websites, embed links in images or text, or use artwork and logos from these services. In addition, mentioning these platforms in videos will also be banned. Previously, the platform already prohibited actions that directed viewers to bookmakers or casinos.
YouTube also stressed that it removes videos about casinos that promise payouts or returns, even if the platform is authorized to advertise. The Ministry of Treasury maintains a list of licensed bookmakers, which serves as a basis for the services allowed by Google.
Another important point is that YouTube channels focused on online casinos and bookmakers may be subject to age restrictions. This measure blocks the viewing of content for users who are not logged into the platform.
Similar restrictions on Twitch
In 2022, Twitch also banned streaming from online casinos and bookmakers. Unlike Google, the company does not follow a list of authorized services, and the ban is not linked to the display of ads. Streamers cannot live stream games from casinos or gambling sites.
On YouTube, this type of content is permitted, but it is not shown to minors or users who are not logged in. In short, YouTube’s new rules and Twitch’s restrictions reflect a joint effort to ensure safety and legal compliance on licensed digital platforms.
