The fight between Paddy Pimblett and Michael Chandler, on the main card of the UFC, caused a stir. Not so much because of Pimblett’s victory, the Englishman had an almost flawless performance and beat the American by technical knockout in the 3rd round. However, what really caught everyone’s attention during UFC 314, at the Kaseya Center, in Miami, Florida (USA), was the bet lost by Conor McGregor.
The result of the fight caused Conor McGregor to lose a $500,000 bet (around R$3 million) that he made on his opponent before the fight.
McGregor bets big and doesn’t win in the UFC
This isn’t the first time the eccentric fighter has bet big and lost a lot of money. In October 2024, the Irish fighter placed half a million euros (equivalent to around R$2.8 million) on a combined bet, where he predicted Max Holloway against Ilia Topuria and Robert Whittaker against Khamzat Chimaev to win. However, both predictions failed, resulting in a considerable financial loss.
If he had won this combined bet, McGregor would have earned a return of $17 million, which is around R$97 million.
The odds for Holloway to knock out were 7.4, while Whittaker’s were 4.6, meaning that if both predictions were correct, the fighter would see his stake multiplied by 34.04 times.
UFC 314 Fight Details
Inside the octagon, Pimblett had the best performance of his career. The Englishman only didn’t dominate all the action in the final stretch of the first round when Chandler managed to take him to the ground and stay on top.
The Liverpool athlete gave a masterclass. Standing, on the ground, with punches and kicks, Pimblett dominated Chandler.
In the third round, the Englishman landed a beautiful knee that opened the American’s face and practically ended the fight. On the ground, a series of elbows and punches ended the fight and gave Baddy the victory.
