Ministry of Sports identifies most popular eSports modalities in Brazil

The results of a Public Consultation that gathered the opinions of experts, operators and those interested in electronic games on the most popular eSports modalities practiced in Brazil have been released.

The purpose of the consultation held between February 17 and March 5 was to update, with data from the regulated market, the list of eSports modalities included in MESP Ordinance No. 125, of December 30, 2024, since neither the IOC (International Olympic Committee) nor the COB (Brazilian Olympic Committee) had this information.

Conducted by Plataforma + Brasil, the survey is an unprecedented initiative by the National Secretariat for Betting and Economic Development of Sports, a structure of the Ministry of Sports. The result identified the eight most popular sports in the country.

Currently, eSports is a growing market in Brazil and extremely strong worldwide, which attracts investments and creates opportunities for growth and development, allowing Brazilian athletes to occupy a prominent place in the sport.

Most popular esports in Brazil

Identified as the most popular, Counter Strike ranks first on the list with 90.7%. Next comes League of Legends (LOL) with 87%, third is Valorant with 69.2%, followed by Free Fire with 55.3%, FIFA with 52.3%, Dota with 43.07%, Fortnite with 43.07% and finally E-Football with 38.4%.

According to the National Secretary of Sports Betting and Economic Development at the Ministry of Sports, Giovanni Rocco, the eSports market in Brazil is evolving rapidly, driven by increasing investments and an expanding fan base, which has increased the popularity of competitive gaming across the country.

According to the responses received, the IOC should include the following sports in the Olympic Games:

  • LOL – League of Legends (93,8%);
  • CS – Counter Strike (90,7%);
  • Valorant (78,4%); 
  • FIFA (75,3%);
  • Dota (70,7%); 
  • Fortnite (70,7%); 
  • Free Fire (64,6%); e 
  • E-Football (64,6%);

“With this Public Consultation we were able to identify the most popular sports practiced in Brazil. With the aim of promoting eSports, at a national and international level and in preparation for the First Olympic Games in Saudi Arabia, in 2027. All this while protecting the integrity of sports betting”, concluded the secretary.
