Buenos Aires’ gaming regulator has launched tenders to modernize seven local casinos. The Buenos Aires Provincial Lottery and Casino Institute issued an official statement.
According to the note, the action will increase the “competitiveness of the province’s casinos”.
The establishments are in Necochea, Miramar, Tandil, Sasso, Hermitage, Mar de Ajo and Sierra de la Ventana.
Gonzalo Atanasof, the chairman of the body, signed the resolution. This resolution promotes the bidding process, currently, the seven casinos operate with extended concessions.
Buenos Aires Casinos: Proposals for Modernization
The regulator has announced the contracts, with the winners signing 20-year operating agreements. There will be optional clauses for a one-year extension.
The review of proposals will begin on July 8 at the headquarters in La Plata. The Institute said: “We expect bidders to invest in improvements to the buildings.” In addition, they must “modernize gaming rooms and slot machines.” They must also “promote competitive entertainment venues.”
The regulator demands more from operators, they must offer food and entertainment options. These alternatives must be available year-round.
Atanasof described the measure as “a fundamental step towards modernization”. It is also for the “competitiveness of the province’s casinos”.
He stated that the notice is based on “a commitment made”. This commitment was made “in conjunction with the province”. The head of the Institute mentioned the job guarantee, as the measure would “guarantee the continuity of employees”.
Additionally, it would “improve their working conditions.” Atanasof added that it would help “capitalize on the tourism and entertainment potential” of all seven casinos.
Necochea: an obstacle to regional plans?
However, the bidding process for the Necochea casino faces a potential obstacle. Mayor Arturo Rojas told Ecos Diarios that Necochea is seeking a definitive sale of the site.
Rojas suggested modifying the bidding documents. They would specify the modernization of the gaming room, as well as the operation of the slot machines. These would be essential conditions for the sale.
Rojas said the city administration “intends to finalize” the sales agreement. The bidding process for the sale will take place in six months.
The mayor reinforced the importance of the provincial notice. He said it was “very important” for the city. Rojas also mentioned that “expectations are high” because “apparently some parties are interested [in submitting proposals].”
