Macau’s gross gaming revenue reached MOP$576.6 billion (R$423 billion or US$71.6 billion) in the first quarter of 2025, according to the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. This represents a modest year-on-year increase of 0.6% and is approximately 76% of the MOP$761.5 billion recorded in the same period in 2019.
The mass market segment contributed MOP$432 billion, accounting for about 74.9% of total revenue. This marks a slight increase of 0.6% compared to the same period in 2024 and a growth of 10.9% compared to Q1 2019.
VIP revenue was RPM 144.6 billion, accounting for 25.1% of total gaming revenue. Although this shows a slight increase from the MOP$ 143.8 billion recorded the previous year.
Thus, it remains considerably lower than the MOP 332.1 billion revenue obtained in the first quarter of 2019. At that time, the VIP segment accounted for almost 49% of the total gaming market revenue.
The data reflects that Macau’s gaming recovery remains mixed, with the market suffering from fluctuations in regional travel patterns and consumer confidence.
Although the mass market is showing greater resilience, the lack of a more robust recovery in VIP could limit short-term growth. This will depend, in particular, on macroeconomic uncertainties and the evolution of local regulatory dynamics.
