The Financial Oversight and Control Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, led by Congressman Bacelar, approved two requests to discuss the fight against illegal betting and measures to curb tax evasion. The meeting was held this Wednesday (23).

This approval is an important step towards addressing issues related to illegal gambling and tax evasion in Brazil.

Congressman Bacelar proposed holding a public hearing to discuss the actions implemented by the government to combat illegal operators in the Brazilian fixed-odds betting market.

He highlighted the issue of bookmakers evading taxes and failing to comply with their obligations to protect bettors and responsible gaming.

According to the deputy, despite advances in regulating the betting market in Brazil, complaints about the activities of illegal operators still persist.

“The losses caused by these illegal operators are significant, affecting not only tax collection but also the financial stability of many bettors who participate without protection or supervision,” said Bacelar.

Measures to combat illegal betting

Bacelar proposes inviting the Secretary of Prizes and Bets of the Ministry of Treasury, Régis Dudena. In addition, he also intends to invite the Director General of the Federal Police, Andrei Augusto Passos Rodrigues, and the National Secretary of Consumer Affairs, Wadih Damous Filho. Other authorities will also be invited to participate.

“Our goal is to strengthen initiatives that aim to regulate the sector and ensure a safe and responsible environment for everyone involved,” argued Bacelar.

The second request, presented by Congressman Zucco, calls for a hearing to discuss inspection and control actions over payment and financial institutions.

These measures aim to protect bettors and ensure the integrity of the betting market in Brazil. In addition, the discussion on the regulation of the sector can bring more transparency and security to those involved.
