New data recently published highlights a significant increase in the use of responsible gambling tools during Safer Gambling Week, held from 18 to 24 November in the UK and Ireland.
During the event, more than 1.5 million unique gambling accounts activated some safer gaming feature. This volume represents a 22% increase compared to the same period last year.
Among the available tools, the deposit limit remained prominent. It recorded a 14% increase in the number of new limits set compared to the previous year.
Significant data shows that almost half of those who set deposit limits did so for the first time. This scenario indicates an increase in awareness about the use of devices to control gambling habits. It also shows an increase in player engagement with these tools.
The campaign also sent 7.2 million messages advising participants on safer gaming practices. It also generated more than 60 million impressions across social media platforms. This number represents a 21% increase over the previous year.
The official Safe Play Week website has received over 500,000 visits. The site provides additional guidance and links to support services for those seeking information or support.
Commitment to player protection
The initiative was supported by the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) and gambling operators, as well as charities, parliamentarians and the Gambling Commission. The main aim was to encourage discussions about responsible gambling and highlight the support tools available to players.
Commenting on the campaign, Grainne Hurst, CEO of BGC, said: “Safer Gambling Week has proven its worth once again by making a real impact, encouraging even more gamblers to make the most of the wide range of safer gambling tools available only in the regulated sector.
These new figures are a testament to its continued success and the industry’s commitment to raising standards and ensuring that the millions of customers who enjoy a regular flutter do so in a safe and responsible environment.
Our members promote safer gaming every day of the year, but a single dedicated week, bringing together the entire industry with the support of parliamentarians, peers, regulators and other stakeholders, advances this work in a uniquely powerful way.”
