The Aurora City Council has approved a necessary relocation of Illinois’ Hollywood Casino from its current downtown location on the Fox River to a location near the Premium Outlet Mall.
The City Council has gone 10 to 1 to modify the zoning to allow construction on the Penn Entertainment gaming site later this year.
Details about the Hollywood Casino structure
Penn plans to build a state-of-the-art casino and hotel on I-88 adjacent to the Chicago Premium Outlet Mall. The $360 million development will offer a casino with 900 slots and 50 gaming tables. The resort will also have a hotel with 200 rooms, bars and restaurants, space for meetings and an events center.
In May, the Hollywood Casino Resort held a two-hour open hearing for Aurora residents. City officials and developers answered questions about the casino’s relocation.
The Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) approved Penn Entertainment’s proposal to relocate both riverside casinos. Hollywood Casino Joliet will also be relocated to a new address and will transform into a land-based casino.
Illinois Gaming Board Gives Preliminary Approval for Bally’s Chicago Temporary Casino
The Illinois Gaming Board passed a “preliminary suitability determination” for Bally’s to operate a temporary casino in the former Medinah Temple in River North, Chicago. Bally’s hopes to open the temporary casino in the coming months.
The move allows Bally’s to continue the process of preparing the site and hiring staff. Applicants deemed “preliminarily suitable” can complete the tasks required for a pre-opening audit, testing and eventual issuance of a temporary operating license.
There will be a two to four day trial of the temporary casino before the Illinois Gaming Board issues the license without the need for another board vote.
