Bill 448/24, proposed by deputy Julio Cesar Ribeiro (Republicanos-DF), aims to allocate a portion of the revenue from online sports betting to the Brazilian Confederation of Deaf Sports (CBDS).
The project is currently under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies.
The objective is to guarantee resources so that CBDS can develop sports programs and initiatives aimed at the specific needs of the deaf community.
Sports betting project has a long way to go
According to deputy Julio Cesar Ribeiro, the allocation of these resources is essential to provide deaf people with access to adequate sporting opportunities. Thus, this type of action promotes inclusion and development for this portion of the population.
PL 448/24 proposes a change in the distribution of resources obtained from online betting. While Law 14,790/23 allocates 88% of sports betting revenue to companies, the project proposes to reduce this percentage to 22.1%, directing the difference (0.1%) to CBDS.
For the project to become law, it will need to go through several stages in the legislature. It will go through the following steps:
- It will be analyzed by the Defense of the Rights of People with Disabilities committees
- For Sport
- Finance and Taxation
- Of Constitution and Justice
- Citizenship
So, if it is approved in all these instances, the PL will go to a vote in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies. Later in the Federal Senate and only then for sanction by the President of the Republic.
Therefore, the proposal represents progress in the search for inclusion and support for people with hearing impairment. This is very important as it will ensure that they have access to opportunities in the sports field and contribute to their integration into society.
