Next Wednesday (3), the Administration and Public Service Commission of the Chamber of Deputies will debate the possible transfer of federal lottery operations to a subsidiary of Caixa Econômica Federal.
Deputies Tadeu Veneri (PT-PR) and Erika Kokay (PT-DF) highlight that Caixa lotteries play a crucial role in reducing social inequalities in Brazil, allocating around 40% of profits to areas such as health, education and projects social.
Since 1962, Caixa has had a monopoly on federal lottery games, thus enabling its relevant social role.
The debate, scheduled for 2 pm, will be attended by representatives from the Ministry of Finance, trade unions and Caixa Econômica Federal itself.
Request No. 9/2024, proposed by deputies Tadeu Veneri (PT-PR) and Erika Kokay (PT-DF), requests a Public Hearing to discuss the transfer of lottery operations to a Caixa subsidiary company.
The hearing aims to understand the rationale behind this decision, especially following recent discussions within the state bank’s Board of Directors.
Therefore, the application also highlights the history of lotteries in Brazil, highlighting the challenges previously faced in privatization attempts.
