Last week, integrity in Brazilian sport and the betting market was the focus of an important meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Sports, the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), the National Games and Lotteries Association (ANJL) and International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA).
The meeting, held in Brasília, addressed the current scenario in Brazil, especially in the context of the regulation of sports betting and online games.
Concern about manipulation of results
Participants discussed the challenges surrounding combating match manipulation, which compromises both sports and betting.
“Since last year, when the first operations were launched as a result of investigations by the police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, ANJL has been stating how harmful manipulations of results are for the entire sector”, declared Plínio Lemos Jorge, president of ANJL.
The concern is well-founded. Because fraudulent schemes not only “break the bank” of bookmakers, but also affect the reputation of sporting events in Brazil.
Therefore, an environment of integrity is essential, not only for operators, but also for bettors who seek safe and fair experiences.
Among the measures discussed, there was a consensus on the need for an ordinance that effectively regulates the integrity of betting.
Giovanni Rocco, National Secretary of Sports Betting and Sports Development, and other directors of the secretariat were present and contributed to the suggestions drawn up at the meeting.
The presence of IBIA experts, such as Silvia Paleari and Antonio Abdilla Zefara, brought an international perspective on effective manipulation prevention practices.
With its already consolidated partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), IBIA reinforces its vital role in the fight for integrity in betting.
About ANJL
Founded in March 2023, ANJL has been an active voice in defending the interests of the gaming and betting sector. With an agenda focused on responsible and honest gaming, the association seeks to:
- Provide betting security
- Stimulate economic development
Among its associates, prominent companies such as GaleraBet, PagBet and 1xBet stand out, reflecting a collective commitment to integrity.
At the end of the meeting, it became clear that the path to effective regulation still presents challenges. However, dialogue between the sector’s main players is a positive step towards building a sustainable and respectable betting market.
But as the determination to maintain integrity in Brazilian sport is great, the expectation is for a promising future. Therefore, both the betting market and sports lovers can expect improvements in the future.
