At the end of December 2023, the Federal Government sanctioned Law 14,790/23, to regulate sports betting in Brazil. Three months later, Brazil hosted the SBC Summit Rio 2024, with lectures and exhibitions that took place in the first week of March.
The event was an opportunity to stimulate networking and insights to develop the national market. Therefore, it happened at a time when the government began to publish ordinances to adjust the regulation of the sector in Brazil.
In this sense, Hans Schleier, COO of Casa de Apostas, highlighted the importance of the SBC Summit Rio within this context: “Large events like this bring together a huge amount of know-how and possibilities to share experiences. This will be fundamental for the development of the sector in Brazil.”
“It’s a place where we can exchange experience with other companies in the sector and generate networking for everyone”, added Tiago Silva, CRA at Cactus Gaming, which was a premium sponsor of the event and had its own stand.
So, to expand the debate on the betting industry and provide more market knowledge to companies, the current edition of the fair brought together the main market players through exhibitions, lectures and networking spaces.
“We were very happy to hold this special meeting that brought together agents from the betting, marketing and football segments. It’s a way for us to get together and, at the same time, also discuss advances in the betting sector”, highlighted Fernando Paz, commercial director of Absolut Sport in Brazil.
Favorable scenario for holding the SBC Summit Rio
The SBC Summit Rio 2024 took place amidst a boom in the betting sector in Brazil. The sector, between August 2022 and August 2023 alone, registered a growth of 135% in the country, according to data from Datahub.
In this context, the CEO of Galera.bet, Marcos Sabiá also highlighted the expansion of the segment in recent years: “Conferences like the SBC Summit Rio allow contact with a much more comprehensive view of the betting sector.
In addition to the possibility of highlighting the best practices in the market, the fact that the event is hosted in Brazil also says a lot about the rise of the segment on national soil.
Expectations for the fair are very good, based on a constant exchange of learning and experiences during these days. The conference only strengthens the Brazilian market, which has great prospects for 2024.”
Rafael Borges, Country Manager at Reals, also said: “Having an event of this magnitude aimed at the Brazilian market is, without a doubt, a great opportunity to debate and develop the national market.
We know the relevance that the betting sector has already achieved here in Brazil, and we understand that this exchange of experiences, here on national soil, is very welcome.”
Furthermore, the company was represented at SBC Summit Rio by commercial and operations managers. They are, respectively, Jhonny Klayton Novaes Santos and Carlos Augusto da Silva, as well as the IT director, Lucas Maia Oliveira.
Presence of many sports marketing professionals
Therefore, in addition to having executives from the main bets operating in the national market, the fair attracted professionals and specialists from the football market. As was the case with Fábio Wolff, managing partner of the sports marketing agency Wolff Sports.
“Brazil is the hot ticket in the world’s betting market. In this way, I welcome the holding of major events in Brazil to promote the industry”, said Wolf.
While sports marketing specialist Renê Salviano, CEO of the Heatmap agency, pointed out: “Our agency has been serving betting companies for almost 3 years, we have learned a lot and it is a market that is undergoing giant evolution. So, events like this bring benefits to everyone.”
Representatives from clubs such as Coritiba and Botafogo were also present, to address issues related to the market in general.
In the case of the Paraná team, for example, Marketing and Business Director Arnaldo Garcia participated in a panel with topics related to sponsorships and commercial properties.
“Based on our commercial experience, we can highlight topics on how SAFs are placed on the market and how responsibly this process must be carried out,” concluded Garcia.
