The Federal Supreme Court (STF) begins this Monday, 1, the opening of the 2021 Judiciary Year in a hybrid system, that is, mixing a face-to-face and online format. The session was held by the President of the STF, Minister Luiz Fux, and was attended by the President of the Republic, Jair Messias Bolsonaro (without party).

In addition to the president, the formal session also featured the attorney general of the Republic, Augusto Aras, the president of the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Felipe Santa Cruz and the presidents of the Federal Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP ).

The current president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), who was confirmed, did not appear due to the negotiations concerning the vote to elect his successor in the house.

In an official statement, the STF stressed that the site was prepared to respect all security protocols of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO). The ceremony was shown live on TV Justiça, Rádio Justiça and the STF YouTube channel.

“In the plenary, the following sanitary measures will be adopted, among others: hygiene of the environment, use of masks, temperature measurement, maintenance of social distance, transparent acrylic dividers to create individual spaces on the benches, availability of gel alcohol in the access to the plenary and in all positions of the table ”, informed the court.

STF can define the situation of the betting industry in Brazil

Among the subjects scheduled for evaluation in the first half of this year, there are guidelines such as the right to be forgotten and the regulation of games in Brazil, in addition to the return of the sessions regarding the testimony of the president in the case about his alleged attempt to influence the Federal Police.

The forecast is that the regulation of the games will be debated on April 7, when there will be an analysis at the STF plenary of RE 966.177, which addresses the typical conduct of establishing and exploring games of chance. The trial rapporteur will be the president himself, minister Luiz Fux.

This analysis at the Supreme Court may be fundamental to change the current scenario of banning the betting and gaming industry in the country, facilitating the legalization of the activity.
