Sports betting has been allowed in Brazil since December 2018, when law 13,756/18 was enacted. The law granted ‘provisional’ authorization so that fixed-odds bets in the country could be carried out, but with a competitive environment and the condition that bookmakers are based in other countries.

However, this lack of regulation can lead to a less secure environment for the sport, as cases of match-fixing can be linked to betting.

Rádio Senado today reported, in its podcast ‘Eleven Minutos’, a bill that intends to change provisions in the regulation and toughen the law, with the aim of inhibiting the manipulation of results in sports and bookmakers.

In addition, the bill is also focused on curbing abuse, preventing money laundering and, most importantly, decreasing the force of inducing addiction.
