Exclusive Luiz Felipe Maia analyzes the pros and cons of the MP that will regulate sports betting

The lawyer specializing in sports betting regulation in Brazil, partner at MYLAW Advogados, Luiz Felipe Maia, again grants an exclusive interview to the iGaming Brasil portal, this time commenting on the possible consequences of the Provisional Measure that will regulate fixed-quota sports betting in Brazil.

In our chat, Felipe Maia analyzes the fact that clubs are concerned about regulation in the way it was presented in the MP. They fear a drop in revenue, as a result of the decrease in the number of “customers/betting sites” and comment on whether the text of the Provisional Measure will also be harmful to sport in general.

The lawyer also talks about the issue of the suggested 30% tax levied on the value of prizes to the gambler, a point that has caused many discussions against. It makes a parallel between the ideal world and the real world, what is charged and what the ideal regulation would look like.

Maia also explains the question of the Legitimate Use of third-party brands, which is described in the Law and is allowed by Brazilian law, being normal in this type of negotiation and fits in sports betting.
