A resident of the city of Radcliff, Kentucky (USA), used US$30, won in a state lottery scratch card, to place a new bet. Surprisingly, this boldness resulted in a prize of US$3 million (about R$18 million).
The winning ticket was purchased on December 1st in the “Break Fort Knox” game, as reported by American broadcaster WLKY. The winner, who chose not to reveal his identity, scratched off the ticket at the market where he purchased it.
When he saw the dollar symbol and the number three, he told the broadcaster: “I started scratching the amount, I saw the dollar symbol and the number three, and I almost fainted.”
To confirm the prize, he scanned the ticket using the official lottery app, which displayed the message: “Congratulations, you won $3,000,000, claim your prize at KLC [Kentucky Lottery Corporation].”
Kentucky State Lottery Winner’s Plans
Among his intentions for the money earned, the man plans to pay off debts, travel and invest. In a statement to the lottery, he said: “I have always told friends and family that it is not a matter of if, but when [I would win].”
He chose to receive the prize in a single payment, resulting in an amount of US$2.244 million. After deducting taxes, the net prize was around US$1.6 million, or approximately R$10 million.
The market that sold the winning ticket also won, receiving a bonus of US$22,440, equivalent to R$139 thousand. In April 2024, a teacher in Indiana also won a significant prize of US$100,000 in the same game.
