News Corp Australia is in advanced discussions with a consortium supported by editor Matthew Tripp to launch a new betting tool in the country, according to WA Today.
News Corp President Rupert Murdoch is also involved in talks with US media group Fox Corp to use the FOX Bet brand in his new business.
Fox Corp was previously interested in establishing the FOX Bet brand in Australia, with the help of another betting company. Last year, News Corp showed interest among bookmakers in Australia to apply as a local partner to launch FOX Bet, but industry sources now believe the goal is to launch an autonomous company with a partnership linked to the gaming pioneer betting, Matthew Tripp.
On Friday, Matthew Tripp led a $ 4 billion bid by the technology group BetMakers for Tabcorp’s Wagering and Media business. If the offer is successful, involvement in both groups could end BetMakers taking over FOX Bet, resulting in an operation with the two brands side by side, according to industry experts.
Former Sportsbet boss and founder of BetEasy, Tripp, intends to revive Tabcorp’s by launching a second brand that targets younger customers, more interested in sports than racing.
Tripp helped Sportsbet to become the country’s second largest bookmaker behind Tabcorp’s, and invested AU $ 25 million in BetMakers in February, becoming a strategic advisor in charge of winning big deals.
