Former deputy and retired judge Régis de Oliveira – former rapporteur of a bill on the legalization of games in the Chamber, in 2010 – has been working in São Paulo in recent months in favor of the return of games and betting, even without a mandate.
He advises the Instituto Jogo Legal and also acts at the Supreme Court (STF) in a discussion on the law of criminal misdemeanors.
In this discussion in the Chamber, for the return of the games, Oliveira circulates through Congress in defense of the Regulatory Framework for the Games, which had its urgency approved in December and may return to the agenda in this resumption of work.
Also former deputy mayor of São Paulo, Régis de Oliveira was affiliated with the PSDB, the former PFL, PMN and PSC.
In a post on his networks, now in December, he defended legalization and said that in Brazil there are 400,000 game operators in Brazil, a modality that, according to him, works with the connivance of the police.
“The Jogo do Bicho exists everywhere. We have 400 thousand people who place bets, who are the controllers. They are illegal. You have to make an agreement with the police not to arrest you. There is in any bar in São Paulo, in Rio”.
“Bingo is also prohibited, but there is a lot in São Paulo. The casino too. It has to be legalized. It is a necessity for the country. They contribute to the police instead of paying tribute”, declared Regis Cavalcanti.
Urgent request for the legalization of games is approved by the Chamber
On December 16, 2021, the vote on the urgent requirement for the legalization of gambling and casinos was approved in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies.
The application needed 257 votes in favor and ended up registering 293, being an important step in the history of games and casinos in Brazil.
Chamber President, Arthur Lira had already revealed that he intended to put the urgent requirement for the release of casinos and other gambling modalities to a vote.
