Google Play is revolutionizing its focus on real money gaming (RMG), opening doors to game types and operators not covered by an existing licensing framework.
In a statement, Karan Gambhir, Director of Global Trust and Security Partnerships at Google, announced plans to expand into India, Mexico and Brazil later this year.
Google Play pilot project arrives in Brazil
The policy changes occur in line with Google’s pursuit of developer innovation while, of course, maintaining user safety.
This move follows the successful integration of real money gaming apps in 15 markets last year.
So, pilot projects were conducted in India and Mexico to evaluate how Google can support more operators and game types. Initially, the focus was on Rummy and fantasy sports offerings.
Thus, the new policy, scheduled for June, will allow RMG game developers to bring their products to users in India, Mexico and also in Brazil via Google Play.
In India, the grace period for the Rummy and DFS pilot project has been extended until June 30, when the new policy will come into effect. In Mexico, the DFS pilot program will end as planned on June 30, prior to the implementation of the new policy.
The inclusion of Brazil in this initiative comes at a crucial moment. The country is starting to implement regulation of its online betting market.
Developers are working together with Google
Google emphasizes that existing policies such as age limits and geolocation rules will remain unchanged and enforced to ensure user safety.
Karan Gambhir highlights close collaboration between developers and Google. The main objective is to ensure that the new approach is aligned with developers’ various earning models.
“For developers immersed in the RMG gaming universe, we hope these changes prepare you for the next phase. Google Play strengthens its support for these types of games. Our intention is to help developers delight users, grow their businesses, and launch new games safely.”, concluded Gambhir.
Finally, the company promises to share more details about future policies and expansions soon, in the coming months, ending the information with expectation and transparency.
