Stats Perform announced an extension of the agreement with the NBA’s Orlando Magic to use AutoStats and its AI (Artificial Intelligence) recognition technology.
AutoStats leverages computer vision and enhanced body recognition technology to generate comprehensive basketball tracking data directly from streamed video. Magic became the first NBA team to use AutoStats in 2019.
The technology uses video and computer vision to identify player position and recurring movements across the court without the need for ‘in-venue’ hardware. The insights produced give teams a more robust approach to evaluating college players.
Jeff Weltman, President of Orlando Magic Basketball Operations, commented, “Before AutoStats, we relied on college scores and game-by-game data for player evaluation, which provides only a small sampling of overall attributes and style of play. one player.
“Tracking data has become the gold standard of NBA analytics and having access to AutoStats tracking data has allowed us to take our scouting process to the same depth of analytics we have at the NBA level.”
“Being able to support our scouting and prospecting with real AutoStats data has given us a huge advantage over the past two seasons and provided important insights during the recent NBA 2020 draft,” says Weltman.
By making the data interpretable and providing detailed player descriptions, Magic can highlight key attributes to determine the strengths and weaknesses of any player, allowing the internal analysis team to predict each player’s worth.
It can also be used to analyze an NBA player’s performance during college.
Steve Xeller, Head of Internal Revenue for Stats Perform, added, “Orlando Magic has been the ideal partner for Stats Perform as we bring to market a new depth of university data and insight that has never been available before.”
“AutoStats is the future of player tracking, and it’s important that we work with innovative teams like Magic that embrace information and technology to create more accurate, data-driven decisions.”
“Working with Magic’s core analytics team, we’ve generated player dashboards with interesting insights into the next generation of NBA stars, providing deeper insights into the recruiting process. We look forward to continuing this exciting partnership with the team.” , concluded Xeller.
