The 2nd Disciplinary Commission of the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) punished this Wednesday, 9, nine players for match fixing in Brazilian football in 2022.

The athletes were punished with different penalties (from 360 days to 720 days) by the auditors of the first instance of the Sports Justice.

The STJD Prosecutor’s complaint was based on the evidence collected by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Goiás in Operation Maximum Penalty.

At the trial, striker Alef Manga, formerly of Coritiba, confessed to having participated in the match-fixing scheme.

He said he regretted it and made himself available to return the R$ 45,000 received from the handlers. Alef testified via call from Cyprus.

Even so, the player was punished for 360 days and fined R$ 30,000.

Match-fixing will not be tolerated, says STJD president

The case’s rapporteur, auditor Iuri Engel Francescutti, stated that match-fixing is a serious problem in world football and needs to be faced with rigor in Brazil.

In the vote, the auditor said that the STJD will not tolerate such practices, but will always be judging cases by listening to the contradictory and without pre-judging.

Sidcley, Jesus Trindade and Pedrinho were acquitted by the auditors.

“The answer that is being given by the Sports Justice is that we are not being tolerant with these illegal conducts, which want to take away all the love and passion of the fan for football”, said the president of the 2nd Disciplinary Commission of the STJD, Carlos Eduardo Pontes Lopes Cardoso.

“We are here, in a way, preserving the greater interest of the sport which is based on integrity on the field,” he concluded.
