In the final stretch of the deadline, SIGAP registers more than 75 requests from companies interested in operating in Brazil

With the deadline approaching, 79 online betting companies have already requested registration to operate in Brazil. The grant request must be made by the end of August 20th at the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), a body linked to the Ministry of Treasury.

In this final stretch, several companies applied, with emphasis on Bet7k, VaideBet, Betwarrior, Stake and TQJ-PAR Participações. The latter has a stake in the company of a Silvio Santos Group company.

Brands that do not complete the process today run the risk of not being authorized to operate from January 2025, when sector regulations come into force.

Since July 31, when the federal government released the rules for online games with prizes, such as popular sports betting platforms, there has been a significant increase in requests.

Impact of the new rules on the betting market

The new regulations allow companies to continue their operations, but require compliance with a series of strict rules.

In addition to “fixed odds” bets, authorized under Michel Temer‘s government, which allow bettors to know their winnings at the time of betting, the new rules also cover online casinos.

The government released these values ​​in July, as long as they presented a table of potential gains, something it was trying to integrate into the legal framework. The ordinance imposed a grant of R$30 million so that companies can operate legally in Brazil.

Selectivity and mergers in the sector

The number of grant requests exceeded expectations, showing robust interest in the Brazilian market, despite the stringent requirements. In November last year, 134 companies expressed their intention to operate in Brazil.

Many signed up initially without any real interest in operating, just to guarantee a position in the market in case of license limitations. The regulation aims to attract companies with a solid reputation and that adopt best practices.

In addition to the grant fee, companies must have a company incorporated in Brazil, with at least 20% national capital. The set of requirements aims to remove less qualified players and strengthen confidence in the regulated market.

International companies, in turn, face additional challenges in adapting to the new rules. Therefore, many of these companies are exploring mergers and acquisitions to ensure a more solid entry into the Brazilian market.

British giant Flutter Entertainment, for example, is in talks to buy BetNacional for around £1 billion. NSX, the company that owns BetNacional, is already on the Treasury‘s list of grant requests, indicating that the operation should be formalized soon.
