Since 2024, the Federal Police and the Public Ministry have been investigating Flamengo striker Bruno Henrique, suspected of involvement in a match-fixing scheme related to yellow cards.
The Spot Fixing operation monitors the player’s alleged movements, which would have benefited family members in bets involving cards received during matches.
According to investigations, three of Bruno Henrique’s family members benefited. According to Mirelle Pinheiro’s blog, from “Metrópoles”, the values invested and the returns obtained are detailed.
In one of the cases, the striker’s brother bet 70 euros and received more than 230 euros after the player received a yellow card in a game against Santos, in the 2023 Brasileirão.
Bruno’s sister-in-law also profited from two foreign betting shops. In the first bet, the bettor invested 70 euros and obtained a return of more than 220 euros. On the second, he invested R$500 and received R$1,425.
Public Ministry requests more time for investigation
The Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) requested another 30 days to deepen the investigations, highlighting the complexity of the case. Among the steps is the analysis of the athlete’s cell phone, seized in 2024, when the investigations began.
After the deadline, the MPDFT will decide whether to formalize a complaint against Bruno Henrique or whether to close the case due to lack of evidence.
One of the factors that motivated the investigation was the unusual volume of winning bets associated with player yellow cards. According to data from Kaizen Gaming, 98% of bets on yellow cards were directed to the Flamengo striker.
Chronology of the investigation into Bruno Henrique
On November 1, 2023, Flamengo and Santos faced each other in the 31st round of the Brasileirão. Bruno Henrique received a yellow card in the 50th minute of the second half for a foul against Soteldo. A few seconds later, he was sent off after receiving a second yellow for complaining. Flamengo lost 2-1.
More than a year later, on November 5, 2024, the Federal Police and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro began an investigation into the alleged betting scheme.
The Federal Police carried out a search and seizure operation at addresses inside and outside Rio de Janeiro, including Ninho do Urubu. More than 50 federal officers participated in the action and seized items such as the player’s cell phone.
On November 7, 2024, Bruno Henrique’s manager, Denis Ricardo, commented on the situation. According to him, the attacker remained calm during and after the actions of the Federal Police and the Public Ministry.
The investigations continue, with a focus on proving or ruling out the player’s involvement in the betting scheme. The case awaits further stages of investigation.
