Sportradar Launches Sports Integrity Service for Social Media

As the use of social networks among athletes and sports professionals continues to grow, Sportradar, a global provider of sports integrity, is launching its new education service geared towards social media.

The new program consists of a series of awareness tools for athletes and those interested in the sport, specifically related to the topic of integrity. Among the first sports organizations to sign up to receive a new service is PENNY DEL, Germany’s top ice hockey league.

Through personalized webinars, league clubs and their players will receive guidance on the integrity risks that can arise when using social media, as well as tips on how to protect themselves and their clubs’ reputation.

Andrew Whittingham, head of educational integrity services at Sportradar said: “The integrity and reputation risks that can arise when using the social network are far reaching. Failing to act with integrity online can not only put individuals at risk, but also pose threats to the integrity of teams, leagues and even the sport as a whole ”.

He added: “We are excited to work with PENNY DEL and we commend the robust approach they are taking. By combining classes to educate players, referees and officials simultaneously, they are ensuring that all hockey participants understand the individual and collective responsibilities to maintain the highest standards of integrity. ”

Gernot Tripcke, the league’s general manager, commented: “We are very pleased with the cooperation with Sportradar. Players are active on social media several times a day and, of course, want to make their accounts as professional as possible ”.

Tripcke added: “Webinars will certainly be useful to proceed with the greatest possible security on social networks. Likewise, it is about preventing the manipulation of results, which has always been extremely important for us as a league ”.

Challenges to the integrity of the sport may arise from different sources, including inappropriate online content and behavior, the threat of insider trading, manipulation of results or corruption in betting and doping.

For this reason, Sportradar assists business partners in resolving all these issues and works for integrity with more than 80 sports organizations in 25 sports, such as football, basketball, tennis, handball, volleyball, darts and others.
