Sportradar presents report on Carioca game and Ferj calls for investigation of the case

The Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation (Ferj) sent a request for an investigation into the alleged case of match-fixing in the match between Madureira and Macaé, for the 10th round of the Guanabara Cup, on April 17, of the Carioca Championship. The 20-page dossier was prepared by Sportradar.

The document includes plays of the match and athletes, indicating a suspicious movement in the amount of bets according to the moves of the confrontation. The sports data and technology company entered into a partnership with Ferj to monitor strange variations in the betting market related to the Campeonato Carioca.

From now on, the investigation will be carried out by the Police Station for the Suppression of Crimes Against Immaterial Property (DRCPIM). According to GloboEsporte, the Rio de Janeiro Sports Court also received a copy of the documentation and will analyze the situation.

Details of Sportradar’s report

The documentation contemplates the chance of prior knowledge of the players in the game’s moves. For example, there was an abnormal amount of bets referring to the defeat by at least two goals from Macaé in the first half (the initial stage ended with the score of 2-0), after Madureira opened the scoring in the first minutes. The second goal happened in the additions.

Another issue in the report concerns the number of goals of the match. The players bet – in a number also above the ordinary, according to the dossier of Sportradar – that there would be at least four goals at the end of the game – Macaé drew with two goals made in the beginning of the second half and Madureira guaranteed the victory with goals at 15 and at 27th of the final stage.

Due to the lack of regulation of sports betting in Brazil, suspicious cases like this still happen and end up threatening the integrity of the sport. Sportradar, Ferj’s partner, is one of the companies that most curb this practice around the world. In relation to the regulatory process, the Federal Government expects to complete all stages later this year.

Macaé players protested before the game against overdue wages

The Macaé squad held a protest before the game started. With salaries delayed for months, athletes remained seated on the pitch for a few seconds. The club ended up falling to Serie B of Carioca with only one point won during the competition.

At the time of the players’ action, the Macaé board issued an official note on their social networks: “The club board respects the position of our squad that has been harmed by the lack of adequate training! Our municipality and the surrounding areas, due to pandemic, banned the use of fields and the like by decrees ”.

The statement followed: “We sent a letter to FERJ, who replied that we should train in cities that were cleared, but the club has not, until now, received any payment related to the TV broadcast quotas, making it impossible to pay the expenses with changing city during the competition.

Our athletes are hampered in technical and financial terms without the sacred right to receive wages (which the club cannot afford without receiving the sole source of the championship’s resources) and has every right to protest, even due to the patent absence technical-sports isonomy that affects a club that cannot train due to force majeure “.
