Grêmio’s management issued a rule officializing the ban on club employees (including athletes and members of the coaching staff) from placing sports bets. The action was implemented after a publication by striker Ferreira.
The player, sponsored by the company Esportes da Sorte, which is also a partner of the club from Rio Grande do Sul, posted a bet on his social media, before the first match of the Campeonato Gaúcho final. Injured, Ferreira did not play against Caxias. The Tricolor Gaúcho became champion of the state.

Document stresses that club employees cannot place sports bets
The document signed by President Alberto Guerra highlights that employees cannot place sports bets on sporting events, according to a regulation proposed by FIFA. The regulation also prohibits this type of publication on social platforms, including family ones.
The measure released by Grêmio covers all categories. Whoever disrespects the norm will be carrying out a labor infraction and liable to a fine. The player’s agent, in turn, justified that it was just an advertisement for the sponsor of the football club and that the player would not have actually bet.
Grêmio manifested itself on the occasion via an official note:
“Grêmio FBPA, in order to preserve the transparency of its processes, of the ethical and moral values advocated by this institution, informs that it is taking all necessary measures regarding the episode involving the athlete Ferreira and the sponsor of the Club, Esportes da Sorte, released on the player’s social network last Saturday.
Grêmio, in line with the rules established by the world football organizations, with regard to the prohibition of sports betting and possible punishments, such as those regulated by FIFA, will issue, as of this Monday, 03, a formal communication to athletes and technical committees, of all categories, on the new norm that will be in force in the Club in the relations of its professionals with this type of entertainment.
Finally, Grêmio undertakes to maintain the fairness of the game and a wide internal control so that no practice can be configured in disrespect or non-compliance with the rules in force”.
