Right-back Mateusinho had his contract suspended by Cuiabá. He was suspended by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) due to involvement in the match-fixing scheme.

The player is banned from acting for 600 days. That is, it is as if the athlete no longer had a contract with the Cuiaban team.

According to GE, the player is in Magé, his hometown, in Rio de Janeiro.

Mateusinho’s team understands that the case is very complex. Therefore, he does not have dealings with teams from abroad.

Alef Manga, also convicted of involvement in manipulation in football matches, signed with a club from Cyprus. Thus, the attacker said goodbye to Coritiba and will pursue his career abroad.

While Mateusinho is willing to work on a social project, which is a football school with incentives for education.

The staff believes that this service will help reduce the player’s penalty.

Hired at the beginning of the year from Sampaio Corrêa, Mateusinho played 22 games for Cuiabá before being suspended by the STJD.

Target of investigation by Operation Maximum Penalty, by the Goiás Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP-GO), he last acted on May 13.

Match-fixing scheme and Operation Maximum Penalty

Mateusinho was one of the players mentioned in the first stage of Operation Maximum Penalty, established by MP-GO.

The entity investigates a match-fixing scheme in Brazilian football between 2022 and 2023.

When he was at Sampaio Corrêa, the right-back would have pocketed BRL 150,000 to score a penalty in the game against Londrina, for the last round of Série B 2022.

The process even disclosed the exchange of messages between the athlete and gamblers.

First, he was suspended for 720 days and given a fine of R$70,000.

The player’s defense received the Plenary of the STJD. So the punishment was lessened.

In the second instance, Mateusinho received a suspension of 600 days and a fine of R$ 50,000.
