The Piauíense Championship is one of the most anticipated sporting events in the state of Piauí. The State Football Federation is in negotiations with a bookmaker to take on master sponsorship.
Scheduled to start on January 14, 2024, the championship format has been defined. Robert Brown, president of the FFP, confirmed the negotiations with a company in the betting sector.
Previously, there was some resistance to this idea, but with changes in the sporting landscape and the growing popularity of betting, the idea is now viewed favorably.
Conversations with the bookmaker and change of stance
“We are in dialogue with a bookmaker,” said the president in an interview with GP1.
“Before, I had my fears due to certain associated problems, but now, with a clearer vision and regulations in place, we see a great opportunity in this partnership”, he added.
State government recognition
In addition to negotiations with the bookmaker, there is other good news. The state government confirmed that it will support the championship again. Brown announced a future meeting with Josiane Campelo, sports secretary.
“Financial support is crucial to the success of the championship. The government has already helped us previously and reaffirmed its commitment for 2024,” he said.
Details of the Piauí Championship 2024
The format of the championship – which must have a bookmaker as a sponsor – promises a lot of excitement.
Teams will be divided into two groups, with the division based on the previous year’s performance. Each team will face the others in round-trip games, guaranteeing plenty of action for fans.
In the second phase, all teams participate, regardless of their position in the previous phase. The 1st in group A faces the 2nd in group B and vice versa. This phase will determine the teams that will advance to the exciting semi-finals.
Not all teams will have a happy ending. The worst performing teams in both phases will face relegation.
Defined Groups
Group A: River, Altos, 4 de Julho and Picos.
Group B: Fluminense-PI, Corisabbá, Oeirense and Parnahyba.
