The CPI for Match-Fixing and Sports Betting, chaired by senator Jorge Kajuru, filed a request to hear Botafogo striker Luiz Henrique in an investigation that could have important consequences for the world of sport.

The request is based on suspicions raised by the English Football Federation (FA), as reported by the UOL website.

Luiz Henrique’s call-up request must be analyzed today

The CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) aims to clarify issues related to manipulation of sporting results. In this way, the hearing of Luiz Henrique, Botafogo striker, may be relevant to the investigations.

According to his request, senator Jorge Kajuru mentions that Luiz Henrique received bank transfers totaling R$40,000 from Bruno Tolentino and Yan Tolentino. The two are relatives of Lucas Paquetá, who is being investigated for involvement in an alleged match-fixing scheme in England.

These transfers occurred shortly after matches in which the athlete played for Real Betis, from Spain, receiving yellow card punishments. Although Luiz Henrique is not being investigated by the English Federation or the Royal Spanish Federation, his presence could be decisive in clarifying suspicions.

Furthermore, Kajuru also requested the hearing of Bruno Tolentino at the CPI. Both applications will be evaluated in the session scheduled for Tuesday (8).

Extension of the Betting CPI

Furthermore, the CPI for Match-Fixing and Sports Betting was officially extended. This extension ensures that the team thoroughly examines all aspects of reports, strengthens sporting integrity and combats corruption in the sector.

Furthermore, members of the CPI state that they need to hear from more people involved, such as the player Lucas Paquetá, from the Brazilian team and West Ham. In England, the midfielder will participate in a hearing in March 2025. In case of conviction, Paquetá could be banned from football.
