The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) sent a letter to presidents of federations and clubs, announcing new rules on advertising in the sports betting sector.

Starting next Friday (11), only companies authorized by the Ministry of Treasury will be able to publish their advertisements in the entity’s competitions. This change aims to reinforce regulation and ensure more transparency in broadcasts.

CBF rules and conditions for betting advertising

The CBF bases its decision on article 114 of the General Competition Regulations (RGC). The entity stated that advertising by sports betting companies, whether national or foreign, depends on full compliance with the legislation and rules of the Ministry of Treasury. This includes displaying advertisements on team uniforms.

“(…) the CBF implemented article 114 of the General Competition Regulations (RGC), which stipulates that the display of advertising or propaganda from companies, national or foreign, sports betting operators, in any form, including on the uniforms of the participating teams , is subject to unrestricted compliance with the requirements set out in the aforementioned Law and in the regulations of the Ministry of Treasury.”

The CBF emphasizes that only duly qualified betting operators will be able to advertise in the competitions it organizes.

“In addition, the RGC imposes that only sports betting operating companies that are duly authorized by the Ministry of Finance, under the terms of Law No. 14,790/2023, are authorized to carry out any advertising in competitions organized by the CBF”, highlights the entity.

Therefore, compliance with these standards is essential to ensure a fair and regulated environment in the betting world. Therefore, the CBF also warns that companies that do not follow these standards will face severe punishments. Not only of an advertising nature, but also in a sporting context.

Penalties for irregular companies

The CBF clearly outlines the consequences of non-compliance with established standards. In the letter, the confederation emphasizes that, “in accordance with article 39, VI, of Law 14,790/2023, it should be noted that non-regularized companies, that is, fixed-odd betting lottery operators that are not on the list emanating from the Ministry of Treasury, they will be prohibited from disseminating advertising or commercial advertisements”.

The penalties are strict and include sanctions applicable both under current legislation and RGC rules. The letter is signed by André Mattos, legal director of CBF; Hélio Menezes, director of governance and compliance; and Eduardo Gussem, integrity officer.

With these guidelines, the CBF reinforces its commitment to regulation and transparency in the sports betting market. This is important to promote an environment that values the legality and integrity of competitions.

Therefore, by implementing these measures, the CBF seeks to protect competitions from possible abuses and irregular practices that could threaten the ethics of sport. In other words, advertising, when controlled and supervised, can bring benefits to the sector. But remember, this must be done responsibly, always observing legality.
