The National Sports Betting Secretariat (SNAEDE), linked to the Ministry of Sports, sent a letter to the Ministry of Justice warning about irregularities in YouTube channels that promote betting irregularly.

Ministry of Sports calls for investigation

SNAEDE identified 53 accounts and 25 channels that promote these games on live streams, putting many users, especially young people, at risk. The municipality asked the Federal Police to intensify investigations into this type of gambling.

In the letter, the secretariat warned about YouTube channels that promise easy profits without mentioning the risks. Some broadcasts have more than 200 thousand viewers, which is worrying about the influence of this content.

Fraud

SNAEDE research also revealed that many of the platforms promoted by influencers take money from punters and then disappear without a trace. For the secretariat, developers, influencers and advertisers are benefiting from a clearly fraudulent scheme.

“These sites hide behind social media platforms to carry out scams. They deceive people through influencers, promising quick earnings and money to pay bills or go to the grocery store. But this is not gambling, it is a crime against the popular economy”, said Giovanni Rocco, head of the secretariat of the Ministry of Sports.

Furthermore, the use of children and adolescents to promote games constitutes a crime, which reinforces the urgency of taking action against these practices.

The increase in interest in online betting highlights the importance of discussing the regulation of this sector and protecting consumers from fraud. The legal market will begin operating in Brazil on January 1, 2025.
