The scene is as follows: The phone rings and, on the other end, someone identifies themselves and asks your opinion on the legalization of gambling and casinos. Calm down, this is not a coup, it is just a way in which the Federal Senate carries out its research.
The objective is to know the opinion of Brazilians on certain subjects. And yes, in the case of the opinion poll on the ‘Legalization of Games and Casinos’ it is in force, and started on the 21st of this month.
Senado Verifica published an explanation about this research, in response to the request of several people. With this, the objective is to attest to the veracity of the initiative.
The survey is carried out among citizens aged 16 and over, by telephone, and will continue until February 27th, as explained by the Senate’s fake news checking service.
Legalization of casinos in Brazil
It is worth noting that the legalization of casinos and bingos in Brazil is being processed in the Senate. Celso Sabino, Minister of Tourism, believes in the approval of the bill in this first semester.
“The bill that regulates casinos has already been approved in the Chamber and is in the Senate. Our expectation is that it will be approved and sanctioned by the president in the first half of 2025”, stated Sabino.
Thus, the proposal aims to establish clear rules for the operation of casinos and bingos, with the aim of promoting tourism and collecting taxes. Senator Irajá is the rapporteur of the matter.

The DataSenado Research Institute, linked to the Transparency Secretariat, is responsible for these researches. Created in 2004, it has already interviewed more than 4 million people, in 132 opinion polls with scientific samples of national scope on topics such as domestic violence, public security, political reform, the environment, violence against black youth and the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA).
In addition, it has already carried out 229 online surveys and surveys, and several internal consultations to assist administration. Statistics professionals select the interviewees. From this, they draw completely random samples. This way, all Brazilians have the chance to participate.
Contact is most often by telephone and through a process known as “random digit dialing”. In this way, numbers are generated randomly.
In other words, they do not come from any known or particular list. Additionally, any telephone number in the country can receive a call at any time to participate in DataSenado surveys.
