Stake Brasil, a bookmaker regulated in Brazil, was not banned from operating in the United Kingdom, but has made the decision to withdraw its operations from that market. This information was shared during an interview given to the Poder360 podcast.
Bárbara Teles, compliance director at Stake Brasil, said: “It was a business decision to exit markets where you don’t have your own platform. There was no ban, it was a decision to exit the market.”
The executive, who holds postgraduate degrees in Law and Government Relations, explained the business reasons behind the decision. In addition, she expressed concerns about advertising practices in the sector.
Regarding the sector’s advertising, Bárbara Teles commented: “Misleading advertising was very damaging to the market’s reputation.”
On the other hand, the expert presented a positive view on the regularization of betting in Brazil. Consequently, she highlighted the economic benefits for national sports.

Bárbara Teles highlighted: “The betting houses are injecting money into football in a positive way, we also need to see that they are promoting the sport.”
The interview took place during the BiS SiGMA Americas event, held in São Paulo. Therefore, this meeting served as a platform to discuss important regulatory issues in the betting sector.
