Betting companies that are part of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), such as BetVictor, Kindred Group, 888 Holdings and Betway have agreed to help the British Greyhound Racing Fund (BGRF).
BGRF was introduced to raise an extra £ 1 million to help support animal welfare issues. Thanks to support from UK operators, that goal will now be achieved.
Each member of the BGC who offers greyhound racing bets is contributing to the fund and, as part of the agreement, the BGRF guarantees that the money will go towards welfare and integrity projects.
Greyhound Racing Fund president celebrates support for animal cause
Joe Scanlon, the chairman of the British Greyhound Racing Fund, said: “It is fantastic news for the entire greyhound industry that all members of the Betting and Gaming Council that offer greyhound racing bets, both in retail and online, are now supporting the bottom ”.
Scanlon added: “As soon as the country returns to normal, this extra funding will result in a huge boost for care for racing greyhounds.”
Brigid Simmonds, the president of the BGC, also spoke about the action: “Watching the greyhound racing is part of our culture and social life that was affected last year”.
Simmonds further stressed that “it is vitally important that 100% of BGC members who benefit from the income from greyhound racing also support the industry and, in particular, the welfare of dogs, during races and when dogs retire ”.
The fund also supports the Greyhound Retirement Scheme, which ensures that racehomes have homes when their career is over. Each year, the fund spends approximately half of its revenue on animal care programs. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the organization has transferred an extra £ 600,000 to the cause.
