
The proposal to regulate online betting may have its vote resumed by the Senate Sports Committee (Cesp) this Thursday.
At the last meeting (18), the vote was postponed after a request for a collective view.
The text (PL 3,626/2023) establishes rules for authorizing the operation of betting systems, for advertising these games and for the allocation of taxes on revenue, among other measures.
More than 80 amendments were presented to the project.
Senator Romário (PL-RJ), president of the commission, even read his opinion in favor of the proposition. However, during the discussion of the matter, several members of the panel warned of insufficient time to examine the document.
Proposal to regulate betting is being processed urgently
Forwarded by the Presidency of the Republic, the project that regulates online betting, known as bets, is currently under analysis. And, passing on an urgent basis, in the Senate‘s Sports (CEsp) and Economic Affairs (CAE) committees.
This measure, therefore, is used to speed up the processing and voting of legislative matters, dispensing with interstices, deadlines and regulatory formalities.
In addition to taxing betting applications, the project provides mechanisms to inhibit the manipulation of results.
Therefore, the expectation is that it will be voted on at the beginning of November.
Senators warn that measure needs to be voted on quickly
In relation to the series of projects to fulfill the fiscal effort intended by the federal government in 2023, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues pointed out in a recent session what regulates sports betting through a fixed quota.
The matter incorporated Provisional Measure (MP) 1,182/2023. Senator Angelo Coronel (PSD-BA) is the rapporteur.
“There are measures here that are also part of the fiscal that are in the Economic Affairs Committee, such as the Betting Bill. It has an expiration date, as a provisional measure, which is November 11th”, warned Angelo Coronel.
The project was approved in the Chamber of Deputies in September.
