Two football players suspended in Wales for gambling involvement

The Wales Football Association (FAW) suspended and fined two football players for violations of rules of conduct for involvement in sports betting.

Luke Cummings of Barry Town United AFC and Thomas Creamer of Conwy Borough FC were suspended for three games of Cymru Premier, the country’s professional football league.

Cummings was punished for alleged betting activity in ten Europa League games in the 2020/2021 season, a competition in which he participated with his current club. In the meantime, Creamer reportedly placed 13 bets on games in the Welsh football league itself.

Punishment of players

The suspensions will begin on December 28 and will last until Barry Town and Conwy Borough have completed three suspension matches. Both players were accused by the disciplinary committee of failing to comply with FAW 38.1.4.

Local competition betting rules state that players are not allowed to place or accept any bets on any game within Wales, with the measures also applying to Welsh clubs playing competitions outside the country.

The disciplinary committee also imposed fines on players, with Cummings receiving a £ 200 fine, with £ 100 remaining suspended and only charged if he is convicted of another betting infraction.

While Creamer received a fine of £ 250, only a portion of £ 100 will only be required in case of further breach of rules for involvement with betting.
